Law Is Interpreted Through Ayaawx and Adaawx

Statement

Law is interpreted through ayaawx and adaawx.

Meaning

Tsm’syen law does not arise from opinion, personality, or convenience.

Interpretation occurs through:

  • Ayaawx — the living legal principles and responsibilities of the Tsm’syen
  • Adaawx — the recorded histories that show how those principles were exercised, tested, corrected, or upheld

Neither stands alone.

Ayaawx provides the lawful framework. Adaawx provides the lived record of that framework in action.

How interpretation occurs

Lawful interpretation:

  • Aligns present action with established ayaawx
  • Is supported by relevant adaawx
  • Respects precedent and witnessed conduct
  • Avoids invention or selective memory
  • Maintains balance across houses and clans

Where adaawx contradicts claimed authority, the claim fails.

What interpretation is not

Interpretation is not:

  • Personal opinion
  • Political strategy
  • External legal translation
  • Cultural symbolism
  • A substitute for house or clan authority

Interpretation clarifies law; it does not create new law.

Continuity and restraint

Because adaawx records consequence, it prevents:

  • Reinvention of law for convenience
  • Erasure of responsibility
  • Unlawful expansion of authority
  • Repetition of settled harms

Interpretation must remain restrained, witnessed, and accountable.
