Glossary Index
INITIATION DRAFT — This glossary is divided into three sections to respect the distinctions between Tsm̱syen (Sm’algyax), Gitxsan, and Nisg̱a’a. Each word will have its own page using the standard template (Root → Variants → Language Forms → Examples). This index will expand as new terms are added.
TSM̱SYEN (SM’ALGYAX) TERMS
Sm’algyax root forms, spellings, and meanings. Each term links to its own page with variants, dialect forms, and audio.
- ayaawx – law; balance, responsibility, relationships
- wilp – House; matrilineal family unit
- sigyidm hana̱'a̱ – matriarch
- waap – House building, dwelling
- amalgam – people, community
- wila waal – respect (placeholder)
- li'ligit – feast, legal gathering
- amhl waap – House members (placeholder)
→ More words will be added as they appear in pages. → Each page includes a Sm’algyax placeholder if the term is not fully confirmed.
GITXSAN TERMS
Gitxsan words that relate to governance, law, identity, and land. These may parallel (but not duplicate) Sm’algyax or Nisg̱a’a concepts.
- adaawk – sacred histories
- li’mx – law, conduct
- lax yip – lands/territory
- wilp-gitxsan – Gitxsan House system
- gimlitxw – speaker
→ Some Gitxsan terms may have 1–2 known spellings. → Pages may include Gitxsan audio in the future.
NISG̱A’A TERMS
Nisg̱a’a terms for law, identity, and culture. Some have multiple modern spellings.
- ayuuk – Nisg̱a’a law and governance
- hoohlgan – family / relatives
- wilp-nisgaa – Nisg̱a’a House system
- k’ihlaxha – respect (placeholder)
- dimwilksihl – feast leader (if applicable)
→ Some Nisg̱a’a forms may have 2–3 variant spellings due to historical orthographies.
ROOT-BASED INDEX (OPTIONAL FUTURE SECTION)
This is an optional section for grouping words by root families once more data is collected. It remains empty until we confirm roots and linguistic lineages.
- (To be added)
- (Reserved for comparative study)
HOW TO USE THIS GLOSSARY
This glossary supports all law, story, and cultural pages in Luudisk.
- click here to enter a new word
- Click a word to open its full page.
- Each word page includes:
* Sm’algyax placeholder or confirmed term * root form * orthographic variants * dialect variations * Gitxsan and Nisg̱a’a parallels (if they exist) * examples * optional audio/video * notes for future expansion
NOTES
This index grows as new knowledge is added. Sm’algyax, Gitxsan, and Nisg̱a’a terms are NEVER mixed — they sit in separate sections. Corrections, additions, and dialect notes from Elders and speakers are always welcome.
